FACIALS

Our facial treatments at TOC Medical Spa are clinical-quality treatments, generally administered in hour-long appointments, designed to gently but effectively exfoliate, clean, and condition your facial skin so that you walk out looking and feeling refreshed, with skin compliment-ready.

The Hydrafacial MD device uses a fluid-based system and specific handpiece tips to loosen up and suction away dead skin cells and then to bathe the skin with specialized antioxidant solutions, acids, or serums.

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliating procedure performed as either a pre-treatment before A Hydrafacial or as a stand-alone treatment; it results in removal of fine facial hairs along with the stratum corneum.

Makeup, if desired, can be applied immediately after any of these facial treatments, making each type a true “lunchtime peel” with no one the wiser about your excursion!

HYDRAFACIAL MD

Q: What does a Hydrafacial consist of?

A: Hydrafacial MD uses a patented technology to thoroughly cleanse, exfoliate, extract, and hydrate in one relaxing session. The device uses a fluid flow/gentle vacuum pull to lubricate the skin as various customizable tips are placed on the handpiece and moved over the skin of your face and neck. Your provider will adjust skin stretch and fluid/vacuum settings to give you the optimal treatment as you recline under soft blankets while your hands are absorbing hydrating cream inside lined warming mitts. Optional LED light therapy is included with Hydrafacial MD to further calm post treatment skin or reduce acneic activity if indicated.

Q: I have a big event coming up! Is it safe to do a Hydrafacial before?

A: Yes! As a matter of fact we recommend it. Hydrafacial leaves the skin glowing! Perfect for a big event or before getting photographed.

DERMAPLANING

Q: What is dermaplaning?

A: Dermaplaning has been around for many years but is experiencing renewed popularity as celebrities discover the benefits of this simple, quick exfoliating treatment. With this treatment, the outer layer of “dead” skin cells, along with any fine facial hairs, is removed with a special blade in a very gentle scraping motion. Here at TOC we often follow that with a complimentary 2% lactic acid “Micropeel” application, further chemically exfoliating the skin gently. Your aesthetic provider can perform your dermaplaning as a stand-alone treatment or as a prequel for your hydrafacial or microdermabrasion, if desired. The fine facial hair that is removed will gradually grow back over a period of several weeks; it will not change in color, thickness, or appearance as a result of dermaplaning.

FACIAL Q&A

Q: What benefits can I expect from these treatments?

A: Both treatments above provide reduction or removal of the outer stratum corneum layer of the epidermis, which results in smoother, softer skin which in turn responds to the use of high quality skin care products more efficiently and effectively. At the same time, skin cell turnover is accelerated, which stimulates increased production of collagen, an important protein in the skin which helps keep it supple. Dermaplaning has the added feature of temporarily removing facial hair or “peach fuzz” that sometimes creates unwanted shadows or interferes with smooth makeup application and wear.

Q: Who is a good candidate for these treatments?

A: Hydrafacial and dermaplaning are both customizable treatments and can be done on any skin type as long as the skin is intact and without inflammation. A few specific skin conditions might contraindicate such treatments but these are rare; however, the use of Accutane within the preceding six months, recent sun or significant retinoid exposure, active skin lesions or cold sores, or the possibility of pregnancy should be disclosed to and discussed with your provider to determine whether treatment should be postponed.

Q: Is there any recovery time?

A: There is no recovery time needed with these treatments. Makeup may be immediately applied, if desired. It’s best to wait to wash your face or shower for at least a few hours afterward, and to avoid significant sun exposure for several days. Retinoids can usually be used within a few days; talk with your provider for specifics.

Q: How often should I have this done?

A: Depending upon the intensity of the exfoliating treatment and the preferences and needs of the individual, these treatments could be scheduled as often as every four to six weeks. Many people enjoy coming in monthly to keep their skin functioning and looking its best; others prefer periodic treatments according to their schedules and lifestyles. Every time you receive a treatment, your skin will be stimulated to turn over cells and produce more collagen for approximately six weeks or so.
