Cosmetic Surgery - Rhinoplasty

Cosmetic surgical procedures are performed in our world class ambulatory surgery center, CAREOS, which is dedicated to eyelid, orbital and facial surgery. The facility is located in the office of our parent organization, Texas Oculoplastics Consultants (TOC). TOC’s main office and CAREOS are located on the first floor of Austin Medical Plaza adjacent to the TOC Medical Spa.

The nose is the central point of focus on the face. It sits in the middle, balancing the aesthetics of the face. TOC surgeons know every individual is unique, but also understands mathematical formulas that help define the most desired nose shape associated with various ethnic identities. When the nose is out of proportion to the rest of the face, it can detract from other positive attributes. Stunning eyes and lips can appear less beautiful when paired with a disproportionate nose.

The TOC surgical team is committed to extraordinary results for every patient and dedicated to the uncompromising care required to achieve optimal results. TOC surgeons are experienced and skilled in rhinoplasty techniques, and direct national level teaching courses in rhinoplasty and functional nasal surgery techniques. Utmost care is taken to reduce the risks of complications, maximize safety and to achieve the best possible aesthetic outcome. A carefully planned and executed rhinoplasty procedure by one of our elite surgeons can provide a significant, permanent and positive cosmetic change.

Consultation with a TOC surgeon gives you the opportunity to explore possibilities that meet your aesthetic goals while maintaining appropriate boundaries of proportion, without sacrifice of normal breathing. A careful screening of functional breathing is performed so that any plan for cosmetic changes to the nose includes maneuvers to maximize breathing (see link to functional breathing surgery). More than one meeting will be scheduled before surgery so that you and your surgeon may discuss intricate aspects of a surgical plan carefully tailored to your goals and needs.

Rhinoplasty is an outpatient procedure typically performed under sedation in an operating room. It is not typical to have nasal packs in the nose after routine rhinoplasty surgeries, but there is usually a cast in place for a week, and sutures at the base of the nose that are also removed at one week. Most patients are surprised to find no severe pain after the procedure. Once the cast is removed mild postoperative swelling may persist for months afterwards, and it is typical for a rhinoplasty to take a year or more to fully heal. Bruising can last for a few weeks, especially if the nasal bones are intentionally broken during the surgery, a maneuver commonly performed to reduce the size of the nasal bridge. Rhinoplasty can be performed with other facial procedures, including blepharoplasty, brow lift and facelift.

As our patient you or your loved one will receive evaluation and treatment by one of our elite oculoplastic surgeons, each with advanced specialized credentials, to give you the uncompromising care and extraordinary results we are known for. Most procedures may be performed at TOC’s outpatient surgical center, the Center for Aesthetic and Reconstructive Eyelid and Oculoplastic Surgery (CAREOS). Outpatient (ambulatory) surgery helps to reduce hospital costs, personal expense, and length of stay for patients needing surgery. CAREOS is one of the only ambulatory surgical centers in Central Texas dedicated solely to oculoplastic and laser aesthetic surgery. This means we are highly efficient in providing the specific care you need. For those times when surgery is best performed at a hospital, TOC physicians have surgical credentials at all Austin-area hospitals.

We understand that any patient may feel anxious or apprehensive about treatment. Our goal is to help you or your loved one feel at ease. We engage each patient with sensitivity and respect for his or her individual needs.

Risks of surgery include infection, asymmetry, and worsening breathing. Occasionally, a revision procedure is required to optimize results. We understand that any patient may feel anxious or apprehensive about treatment.
