*TOC Medical Spa is one of the nation’s Top 500 Providers of Botox® Cosmetic.
Botox is widely known for its ability to smooth wrinkles around the eyes, lips, cheeks and forehead. It is also used to re-shape eyebrows and improve facial symmetry. TOC Medical Spa is a Diamond Provider of BOTOX® Cosmetic as designated by Allergan, the makers of Botox.
What is Botox?
Botox was originally developed in the 1970s to treat crossed eyes. It soon proved effective for a range of conditions including muscle spasm, excessive sweating and migraine headaches. More recently, it received FDA approval for treatment of facial wrinkles due to its ability to relax selected muscle tissue. While Botox may be accurately described as a neurotoxin produced by common naturally-occurring microorganisms, a patient need not feel apprehensive, as it has been used safely and effectively for nearly 40 years in numerous FDA-approved applications.
What is the procedure like?
Treatment for facial wrinkles is accomplished in a simple office procedure with minimal discomfort. Small amounts of Botox are injected into facial muscles associated with the affected skin. The needle used is small and does not penetrate deeply. Mild bruising, redness and small bumps may occur at the injection site immediately after treatment. These effects are short-lived and most patients experience little to no recovery downtime.
How long does a treatment last?
Marked reduction of dynamic wrinkling can be seen in a week to ten days. Improvements last from three to four months before additional treatment is needed. Some patients will also see related static wrinkles soften over time.
Are there side effects?
Though infrequent, short-lived side effects include drooping of the eyelids or brows, drooping of the side of the lip and mild headache. The effects of Botox usually lasts 3-4 months. Treatments may not be fully effective for everyone.
Botox can be used in conjunction with cosmetic fillers for optimal facial smoothing.
BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
If you tend to bruise easily, it is recommended that you discontinue taking “blood thinners” a few days before your treatment. This includes aspirin, fish oil, Omega-3s, flaxseed or flaxseed oil, ibuprofen, or Aleve. Discontinuing these products right before treatment is not necessary for everyone, but if you’re concerned about bruising, it’s a precaution to take. Do not discontinue taking medications prescribed by your physician without consulting with them first.
If you would like to apply a topical anesthetic before your treatment, please arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. This ensures the cream is able to reach full effectiveness before your appointment begins.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT
After your Botox®Cosmetic treatment, it is recommended that, for about 4 hours, you avoid exercise or vigorous activity, avoid pressure on the area of treatment, and avoid bending or lying down.
