We like to think of the microdermabrasion as the “gateway” to good skin care. It’s usually the first treatment people have done that gets them thinking about healthy skin. Why is this the treatment that gets people on board? Well, a simple microdermabrasion facial has immediate results that can change the skin’s appearance and feel. After leaving from an appointment, your skin feels smooth to the touch, and you’re glowing. Sometimes, though, a microdermabrasion has the opposite effect. You might be red, flaky, and experiencing a breakout. This is not necessarily a bad thing. This means that your skin is going through a “purging” period where it’s ridding itself of the bad to expose the good. Sometimes this can last for several days, but the end result is so worth it! With regular microdermabrasion appointments and good at-home skin care, the likelihood of this occurring goes down tremendously.
So what exactly is a microdermabrasion? A microdermabrasion is a gentle, mechanical exfoliation of the skin using vacuum suction and very fine aluminum-oxide crystals. Exfoliation of the outer layer of skin immediately leaves skin smoother and promotes the growth of healthy new cells. A series of microdermabrasion treatments will help to diminish fine lines, minimize discoloration, and help with pore size. We recently upgraded our machine to a DermaGlow II. This is the same system used by The Ritz Carlton and The Beverly Hills Hotel (just to name a few).
Our microdermabrasions are hour long appointments performed by your registered nurse. They are tailored to your skin needs, and a treatment called a Bio Blend can be added on if you need extra moisture. If you purchase a series, it is recommended that you space your treatments 4 – 6 weeks apart.
